In 1735 John Wood the Elder published his ‘Plan of the City of Bath’. The plan shows the size of the city at that time and also how Queen Square dominates the city layout.

Published in 1782 the year of his Death. John Wood the Younger’s book: A Series Of Plans For Cottages Or Habitations was the first book to address the houses of the rural labourer.

In his book John Wood the Elder includes a brief history of why the Exchange was built, his reasons for certain design features, architectural description of features and rooms, and illustrated plans.
