John Wood the Elder Georgian Bath Architect 1704 - 54

John Wood the Elder, born in 1704, played a pivotal role in shaping the appearance of Bath as we know it today, working alongside his son, John Wood the Younger (1728 - 1782).

Together, they designed a range of iconic Georgian buildings that include The Royal Crescent, The Circus, Queen Square, The Assembly Rooms, North and South Parade, The Exchange in Bristol, Liverpool Town Hall, and many others.

This website aims to showcase the legacy left by these two renowned architects, not only in their architectural creations in Bath and beyond, but also by exploring their lives and published works.

Each page dedicated to a building will be updated as and when we have more information or further photos… they will feature location maps to highlight where the buildings are or were. Scan the QR codes to view the building map on your smartphone. The updating of the pages of this website is an ongoing process.
